About Counterparty

Counterparty (XCP) is a protocol complete with its own token that allows different nodes to communicate with one another via the Bitcoin blockchain. Assets can be transferred via these nodes and interested parties can create their own tokens easily using Counterparty. After that, these tokens can be exchanged on a p2p basis. XCP, the Counterparty currency, gives holders a stake in the protocol and is used for accessing advanced features.

There’s a Counterparty wallet available and Lightning Network development is in progress. Once completed, this will allow transactions to be confirmed rapidly, including the smart contracts which are transferred on top of the Bitcoin blockchain using Counterparty’s nodes. Small quantities of bitcoin are required to access Counterparty because it operates on the Bitcoin network.
