Key highlights:
- SpaceX (SPCX) has fallen about 26% over the past month as selling pressure intensifies across aerospace equities.
- The decline mirrors a broader unwind in new-space stocks, many of which have surrendered much of their 2026 gains.
- SPCX has significantly underperformed the Procure Space ETF (UFO), highlighting weaker investor sentiment toward higher-growth space companies.
SpaceX extends losses as aerospace stocks lose momentum
SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX) remained under heavy selling pressure on Thursday, extending a monthly decline that has erased roughly 24.29% of its market value. The stock was recently trading around $117.82, continuing a correction that has coincided with a broader retreat across the new-space sector.

The latest weakness reflects a notable shift in investor sentiment after one of the industry's strongest rallies earlier this year. As traders rotate away from higher-risk growth stocks, aerospace companies have become some of the hardest-hit names in the market.
The sell-off is not isolated to SpaceX alone. Several leading space-related companies, including Rocket Lab, AST SpaceMobile, Redwire, Planet Labs, BlackSky, Intuitive Machines and Virgin Galactic, have also retreated sharply after posting outsized gains earlier in 2026.
New-space sector gives back much of its 2026 rally
Recent market analysis illustrates just how quickly enthusiasm has faded.
A basket of 17 publicly traded new-space companies climbed a median 134% from the beginning of the year to their respective 2026 peaks. Since then, those same stocks have declined by an average of 58%, effectively wiping out most of the sector's explosive gains.
The sharp reversal suggests investors are increasingly locking in profits after months of aggressive buying. Rising valuations, macroeconomic uncertainty, and broader weakness in growth stocks have all contributed to the cooling momentum.
Despite the steep correction, the broader basket remains only about 1% below where it started the year, indicating that most of the damage has occurred after the sector's rapid advance rather than during the early stages of 2026.

SpaceX underperforms the broader space ETF
SpaceX's recent decline has been significantly steeper than the broader aerospace market.
Compared with the Procure Space ETF (NYSEARCA: UFO), which tracks a diversified portfolio of space-related companies, SPCX has experienced substantially heavier losses. While SpaceX has dropped roughly 26% over the past month, UFO has declined approximately 9.16% over the same period.

The widening performance gap suggests investors have been reducing exposure more aggressively to higher-beta individual space stocks than to diversified exchange-traded funds.
This divergence also indicates that market participants are becoming increasingly selective, favoring diversified exposure while trimming positions in companies perceived as carrying higher valuation risk.
Technical outlook points to cautious sentiment
From a technical perspective, SpaceX remains under pressure following its sustained decline from recent highs.
The stock continues to trade well below its recent peak, reflecting persistent bearish momentum. Unless buyers regain control and reclaim key resistance levels, sentiment is likely to remain fragile in the near term.
However, after a correction of more than a quarter in just one month, investors will be watching closely for signs that selling pressure is beginning to ease. Stabilization across the broader aerospace sector or renewed optimism surrounding commercial space activity could help support a recovery.
