Gemini is a US-based cryptocurrency exchange that is fully compliant with US securities law. The site was founded by the Winklevoss twins, who are famed for being among the largest Bitcoin holders in the world. Bitcoin and Ethereum can be traded on the site, which features six different order types. Gemini accepts US dollar deposits which are stored at insured banks and most of its digital assets are held offline using cold storage. When Gemini launched in 2015, only US citizens from 26 states were allowed to sign up. Thanks to its trading license obtained in the state of New York, Gemini is able to attract institutional investors. One of the novel features of the site is that it offers daily Bitcoin and Ether auctions, which are held at 4pm ET each day in a style that’s similar to bourses held at the New York Stock Exchange.
