Key highlights:

  • Injective has become the first L1 blockchain to secure SEC registration as a transfer agent
  • The move further strengthens the platform’s efforts in the tokenization space
  • The INJ price has seen a short-term uptrend driven by the latest development

Injective has marked a major milestone in its tokenization push. The blockchain platform has reportedly secured registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as a transfer agent. The registration provides the company with the legal status to maintain official ownership records for securities. This development is more remarkable as the function is traditionally handled by banks and specialized financial firms.

Notably, the move comes as part of Injective’s deeper push into tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). By combining blockchain infrastructure with a regulated transfer agent, the platform is positioning itself to support looking to issue and manage securities onchain.

Injective gains SEC registration as a transfer agent

“Injective just became the first layer-1 blockchain to officially obtain a transfer agent registration with the SEC,” stated Injective in an official X post. The blockchain platform’s affiliate, Injective Institutional Services, has now become a registered transfer agent with the US SEC.

Reportedly, the SEC registration became effective this week. Now, the company can maintain official records showing who owns a particular security. While this is a role usually handled by banks, brokerages, or other financial firms, with the SEC registration, Injective is in a position to take on the same function as a transfer agent.

Unveiling Injective’s tokenization push

Significantly, the move strengthens Injective’s efforts to bring traditional financial assets onchain. As indicated by the SEC, transfer agents can use distributed ledger technology (DLT) as the official record of security ownership, with federal security law compliance being the main requirement.

This becomes more meaningful considering the blockchain’s role in the tokenization sector. The development could effectively bridge the gap between blockchain-based assets and traditional financial systems. The model could help connect these two spaces, giving blockchain records a more direct role in tracking and managing security ownership. As noted by Injective,

“This directly enables Injective to spearhead a new era of institutional-grade tokenization that combines regulatory capabilities with Injective's robust onchain finance stack for internet capital markets to scale.”

The regulatory step with the SEC is also built on Injective’s existing work with tokenized real-world assets. The company had previously collaborated with Nomura’s Laser Digital, which tokenized the Laser Carry Fund via Injective. Other partnerships involve BlackRock money market products and Hamilton Lane’s SCOPE Senior Credit Fund.

INJ price regains momentum

In response to Injective’s SEC registration, the INJ price has seen a significant recovery. Currently trading at around $4.77, the cryptocurrency has surged by nearly 10% in a day. Despite a 9% monthly decline, the Injective price soared by about 3% in a week. This indicates that the token is showing a short-term positive sentiment, reacting to the latest tokenization development.

As the token has broken past the key resistance at $4.58, the community remains optimistic about its potential future. The $4.5 resistance is now acting as the support level. If the token manages to maintain this level, the current rally could continue.
