- Strategy has not bought any Bitcoin in over five weeks after a steady streak of weekly purchases in 2026
Strategy has reduced its Bitcoin holdings by 1,638 BTC, raising funds to repurchase shares of its high-yielding preferred stock, STRC. The Michael Saylor-led company has paused its aggressive BTC accumulation since June 22, with the treasury company increasing its USD reserves to $4 billion.
Strategy sells 1,638 BTC to buy STRC
According to an SEC filing, Strategy sold 1,638 BTC over the last week, netting $104.7 million. Per a statement, the company offloaded the assets between July 27 and August 2 at an average price of $63,957 per Bitcoin.
The sale reduced Strategy’s holdings to 843,138 BTC, valued at around $52 billion, with the company spending an average of $75,419 for each BTC. Meanwhile, the sale came despite Saylor hinting at an incoming purchase in an X post on Sunday with the caption “Bitcoin Drive engaged.”
Strategy, in the 8K filing to the SEC, noted that proceeds from the BTC sale funded payments of distributions on preferred stock and STRC repurchases.
Strategy deployed $52.4 million from the BTC sale to fund dividend payments on STRC stock while splurging $52.3 million to buy back STRC shares. The Michael Saylor-led company scooped 914,143 shares for 81.2 million, marking the second consecutive week of buying back STRC stock.
The move comes as STRC continues to trade below its par value of $100. Meanwhile, Strategy has begun offloading its BTC in recent months, testing the water with a 32 BTC sale and following up with a 3,588 BTC sale in Q2 2026.
Slowing Bitcoin accumulation and increasing USD reserves
According to the SEC filing, Strategy increased its USD reserves by 250 million to $4 billion. The company noted that the “amount includes expected cash proceeds from shares sold under Strategy’s ATM that had not yet settled as of such date.”
A close look at the filing indicates that Strategy sold MSTR stock to bolster its USD reserves. The company sold a little over 3 million MSTR shares for $290 million, with a slice funding the repurchase of STRC stock and the rest going toward beefing up the company’s USD reserves.
At press time, MSTR is up 1% to trade at $94.68, but monthly charts indicate a decline of nearly 7%. On the other hand, Bitcoin price held steady at $63,387 following Strategy’s decision to sell off a portion of its BTC holdings.
Strategy has slowed its Bitcoin purchases in recent weeks, with its last acquisition coming on June 22, five weeks ago. Last week, the company confirmed plans to sell more Bitcoin to fund its shareholder obligations, veering off from its bullish accumulation spree in recent months.
