Key highlights:
- Base has announced the launch of its Beryl upgrade on June 25.
- The upgrade comes with three major improvements.
- Binance will temporarily halt withdrawals and deposits on Base to support the upgrade.
The Coinbase-backed blockchain network Base has announced plans to launch its Beryl upgrade on June 25, 2026. The upgrade aims to introduce infrastructure improvements that will make token issuance more efficient.
Base’s Beryl upgrade will also introduce a new B20 token standard and faster withdrawals. This has fueled speculation about the platform potentially launching a native token in 2026.
Base sets June 25 for Beryl upgrade
Base, which is a layer 2 platform built on top of Ethereum, will undergo a major upgrade called Beryl on June 25. The upgrade aims to make Base stronger in issuing crypto assets through its new B20 token standard. The move will also improve capital efficiency by reducing withdrawal delays.

It is worth noting that Beryl is built on the foundation of Base’s Azul upgrade. Azul earlier introduced a simple protocol structure and a new multiproof system for improving security, auditability, and user experience. The upgrade comes just four weeks after Azul. This highlights the network’s faster development pace.
Explaining three major changes
Notably, the Beryl upgrade brings three major improvements to the Base ecosystem. These include the launch of the B20 token standard, shorter withdrawal waits, and Reth V2 performance upgrades.
Via Base’s B20 token standard, the team intends to make it easier for companies and institutions to issue assets, including stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets (RWAs), and other tokens. This standard works with existing Ethereum tools. It comes with built-in features for regulatory compliance, asset management, and transaction controls.
Also, the Beryl upgrade reduces the withdrawal delay. Currently, it takes seven days to withdraw assets from Base to Ethereum. But after the upgrade, investors can make these withdrawals in just five days.
Moreover, the upgrade introduces Reth V2. This upgrade is aimed at improving node performance and reducing storage requirements. These changes, according to Base, will help the blockchain process more transactions, supporting future scaling issues.
Speculations of a Base token rise
Significantly, the latest development has sparked growing speculations about the Base network’s possible launch of its native token this year. While the platform hasn’t made any official confirmations on this, the B20 token standard upgrade gives more hope about the crypto launch.

Currently, there is nearly 30% chances for the token launch by December 31, 2026, according to the Polymarket prediction market. The figure marks a marginal hike from the previous day’s odds at 28%.
Cobalt upgrade in September
As announced by Base, Beryl is part of the ecosystem’s broader upgrade roadmap. In September, the blockchain intends to unveil its next major upgrade, called Cobalt.
The Cobalt upgrade comes with new features. It will introduce native account abstraction, which will provide an easier way for smart accounts to use features like gas sponsorship and transaction batching. Additionally, it will launch more improvements to the B20 token standard.
Binance to support Base’s Beryl upgrade
Soon after Base announced its Beryl upgrade, crypto exchange Binance declared its support for the move. As a result, the exchange will temporarily suspend deposits and withdrawals on the Base network at 17:00 UTC on June 25. Binance noted in a blog post,
“Starting at approximately 2026-06-25 17:00 (UTC), Binance will suspend the deposits and withdrawals of token(s) on the Base network to support its network upgrade and hard fork to ensure the best user experience. The network upgrade and hard fork will take place at the block height of 1,782,410,400, or at approximately 2026-06-25 18:00 (UTC).”
While the upgrade will take place at around 18:00 UTC, Binance is expected to handle all technical aspects, as confirmed by the platform. The exchange also stated that the upgrade will not affect the token trading on Base, which will continue as normal.
